Hey Guys I have a second Wizard that came in the box that I still have to make, I'm thinking of showing pics of each stage as they are completed. I have already primed, partially assembled the figure and painted the face. So I guess this will be my starting point, maybe I can pass on some of the tips that I have learned to you guys. Bare in mind that it's unreasonable to expect that every figure in your armies should be painted with this amount of detail but I believe that you have "special" figures, I think you call them HQ's, that would benifit from this, if you choose. I'll post some pics tonight. Thumper7458

Tip # 1 Light! This is a given, but it has to be said. If you can’t see it, you can’t paint it. Natural light is always the best; it will give you the best representation of the colors that you are using. Natural light will also show the small imperfections in your work that artificial light won’t. If you’re like me and do most of your painting at night, a small desk lamp that focuses light on your work is a must. Try and get a bulb that mimics natural light.

Tip #2 Priming (undercoating) It’s a little thing but it’s important, you might think why should I do the extra work of priming? Well, not priming may end up being more work, let me explain, the paint needs something to adhere to, it doesn’t adhere very well to bare plastic or metal, it’ll bead up and eventually peel off, especially on well used mini’s. Priming or undercoating gives the model a texture that the paint can stick to. So, save yourself the grief in the long run and always prime your mini’s.

Well sorry guys, I wasn’t able to do the “step by step” from the beginning as previously mentioned, as my camera wasn’t co-operating with me. However I did keep on painting, I completed the inside of the robe, belt and what appears to be a chest plate with a gem in the centre of it, I also got started on the sickle, I painted the handle, vines and roses. Highlighting and shading still needs to be done and the model is still rather dark, I’m not quite sure if the pics will turn out well but I’ll attempt to take a few tonight. One thing you’ll notice is that the model isn’t assembled prior to painting, I chose to do this because painting the inside of the robe with the model preassembled would have been too tight and may result in some sloppy work. I have left the back of the cloak plain, for 2 reasons; 1) I still have to attach the arms to the body, which will leave a gap that I have to fill with “green stuff” 2) I don’t know if I want to do any freehand work on it (I’ve never really done any freehand work and I don’t want to mess up the model) Tip #3 Handling the model while painting I would have to say touch the model directly as little as possible while painting. You don’t rub the paint off the model while you’re handling it, nor do you want the oils from your skin getting on the model and interfering with the paint that you are applying. Mount the model on something that will allow you to get a good grip on it, I used to stick the model to the top of an EMPTY beer bottle with double sided tape but you can use cork, old film canisters and even old paint pots. Just make sure that the bond is temporary, I’m not to keen on the Warhammer rules but I’m sure if you slapped down a mini with a beer bottle attached to it you might get some looks.

The pics came out looking a little chalky but that's the jist of it so far. 1 week and counting, alot of the detail didn't show up in the picture if the sickle, the roses and leaves have a bit of shadow and highlighting that I couldn't pick up in the pic, oh well ... still a WIP. Maybe I'll try to paint a 40k fig in the future, any suggestions. By the way I'm getting tired of painting orks Thanks for looking

Well my intentions were to do a step by step, unfortunately that isn't the case, when I finally get off my keaster to paint I forget to take pics, I get so into the painting I lose track of time. Sorry guys, since the last posting I have put more detail into the sickle, painted the flesh on the arms and hands, attempted painting the scarf thing with highlighting (I'm not terribly pleased with the way the scarf turned out, I might do it over, the highlights and shading are too pronounced, I was looking for something more subtle). I have the arms and head glued to the body and I "green stuffed" the gaps. Tonight I'll smooth out the seams, reprime and paint the back of the cloak, if I still have time I'll paint the hourglass that he's holding in his right hand (man that thing is small) then give it a looksee to see if I missed anything By the way, with regards to the eyes, I'm going to leave the entire eye white, for 2 reasons 1) They're just too darn small to paint the pupils (tried once already and screwed it up and had too fix it) 2) I can justify the white eyes by saying he's in a "Magical Trance" lol Alot of the work on the inside of the cloak got covered up when the model was assembled, the arms sort of close off the front of the model, oh well I'll post some pic's tonight before I continue
