Reaper brushes seem to be the best... i use GW paints, they work for me... but many people prefer vellejo, i only use vellejo in certain cases.

They dont sell Reaper in the UK, at least to my knowledge... only on places like amazon maybe... or a specialty store.

I quite like kolinsky brushes from Vallejo and the drybrush brushes from The army painter.
My old daVinci and Winsor&Newton brushes are my favorites, they are a tad expensive, but with due care they last almost forever.
(My large nylon w&n survived 90 days, bristle down, in water/paint/glue mix, the gw brushes fell apart, the w&n brush just had to be cleaned and was all fine ^^)

A quick tip: it's the point of the brush that really counts, I can paint thinner details with a 0 brush then a 0000, just becaus the brush have been taken better care of and is of a much higher quality.

Another quick tip, while I'm yappin: thin you paint, three thin layers looks better then one chunky one, I like some form of acryllic thinner, like what vallejo sell, but water works fine.
Once more: Thin your paint, I find the brand is secondary to (once more Wink thinning you paint.

Note, blood will make paint thicker, tears will thin you paint, so will allso sweat. Razz

I used to use the craft store paints, you know the 4oz bottles that you can get for a buck or two. Then I switched to GW paints I have no problems with them, mind you I haven't really experimented with any other brands, I'm happy with the GW product, although they are somewhat expensive $4.75 for a 3/4 oz pot is a little unreasonable. I tend to mix my paint with a solution of water and floor wax (Future) the mixture is about 85/15, I the proceed to thin down my paints with that solution 60/40 paint/solution that gives me a nice paint flow.

If you still use the GW inks, this solution also works well with them as it breaks the surface tension and allows it to flow into the cracks and crevasses better. I don’t use it for the “new” GW washes I don’t think they need it and I don’t thin down my paint when I dry brush see, as you need thicker paint for that any way.

You will have to make a few more passes to get complete coverage but it’s worth it in the long run, also your model has a slight gloss on it when you’re done due to the floor wax but a dull coat will fix that.

Just a little tip, after the new pot has been opened the paint will start to dry out, put a drop or two of the solution in the pot when it starts to thicken up will keep it flowing nicely, just don’t over do it ‘cause you could end up with coloured water.

I don’t use any fancy brushes, I shop at Curry’s art supply store and usually get their bottom line brushes, the cost is about $2.00 per brush, I spend a little more on my “detail” brushes, about $5-$7 bucks each. All in all, they’ll last about a month or two (given that I don’t paint armies and for what I spent on the brushes I don’t take really great care of them, aside from just rinsing them off)

Don’t throw away those older brushes that you think can’t be used for anything, depending on their condition they can be trimmed to a blunt tip and used for “dry brushing” or the bristles can be plucked out to get you a finer brush to do super fine detail.

That’s my 2 cents

Obsidian painting, your have made 5 posts since you joined this forum and every post appears to be an advertisment for your store in some way shape or form, while I appreciate your efforts to grow your business, I find it offensive that the only apparent reason to bring up dead posts is to peddle a product that you hope to supply on your online store. I also feel that you are not neccesarily being honest, while top of the line brushes to make the task easier they will not make you a great painter overnight, the members of this forum have seen some of my work and some think it's rather good and I don't need to use $15-$20 brushes to get those results, knowledge and practice are your best tools and they don't cost a thing

I have to agree with you thumper. Although it's nice that you have joined our community they have been to expand your buisness. High quality brushes although nice are not necessary. even a crappy cheap brush is good with some decent effort and good technique.

I wasn't entirely intending it to be an advertisement, yes i said we sell this, however i do state that these brushes are some of the best. and everywhere to get them sells them for 20-50$ And plus if i were to say here try this, the next question someone would ask is, where to get it? and i didn't know a post 4 months old is a dead post?

I apologize for any offense i have made. but i am not trying to completely advertise, i would like to give my opinion on these matters. and i have deleted my other posts which include me "advertising". so i apologize once again.

Sincerely, Gary.

thank you.
Most topics that are a couple moths old are considered dead.
Now we don't want to kick you out so don't feel like that. but your inputs and comments are greatly apreciated. As to the where can i get this it is a legitimate reason to say that. and it is fair to give your opinions.
Welcome to the community first off. Although we may have gotten off on the wrong foot welcome and enjoy your stay here. But still it is good to know that you have that kind of stuff. I recommend the Advertising part located here where you can show links and stuff to your products
http://wartubeforum.darkbb.com/trading-selling-buying-and-more-f25/
Here set up your own post about whatever you may sell.
But we'd appreciate anything you might have to say. Any knowledge added to our repository here is great. thumper is a testament to that. His painting skills are superb and give us all something to aspire to. Maybe you could be competitors Wink
Once again welcome.
