PostSubject: Honour the dead   Thu Aug 21, 2008 11:33 am

Sergeant grant wiped the sweat off his forehead, looking out the barren corpse filled plain where the traitor scum had attacked last; he rested his Lasgun on the ground and grabbed a stool to sit on. He stared blankly at the space where, In a few hours he would be fighting for his God and his life against the traitorous forces who had denounced the word of the emperor mere months before. The sergeant was interrupted by a vox comm operator “sir?” the sergeant looked up “what is it private” “ reports say the traitorous forces are coming before expected” “right, all men to your stations be ready for attack”. The fortress had held out against the attacks of the traitors but the sergeant didn’t know how long they could survive without the ultramarines that the Commander had requested months ago when the chaos incursion had started. Grant saw the small inklings that formed the traitors in the distances “all men ready fire on my mark” Lascannon and Autocannon crews started loading up their weapons. The traitors started their assault and had started to run “fire, now!” in a flash of light the traitors fell by the hundreds, but still attacking without stopping for cover or to re-group, “the fools”, thought the sergeant “not noticing that the soldiers of the emperor will overcome the traitor scum with our mighty guns”. The sergeant fired his Lasgun not even needing to aim, just firing in the mass of bodies raging towards the fortress.

An hour into the battle the traitors had not reached the fortress walls and Imperium casualties were minimum, the guns of the 33rd Vostroyans had not stopped firing and the traitor’s numbers were all but spent. “Take the fight to them!” shouted the sergeant, the Vostroyans charged over the barricades at the base of the fortress and charged right into the traitors lines, the sergeant slashed left and right with his power sword, killing droves of former men of the emperor and commanding his men into the weak points of the enemy. The traitors began to retreat then to rout “running for your worthless lives eh?’ thought the sergeant, killing more and more traitors around him, firing his bolt pistol into the face of one while simultaneously driving his sword into the heart of another. The traitors were all dead ten minuets after the vostroyans had counters charged. “The day is the Emperors” the men of the 33rd Vostroyans started to cheer. The sergeant smiled but looking to the east of the plain his smile started to fade, he saw on the distance giant figures “back to the defence lines, Now!’ the soldier started running towards the fortress with all their speed but the moment that the Vostroyans had nearly reached the barricade giant pod like structures had landed before the soldiers they stared dumb founded for a moment and the sergeant grasped his sword. Like an explosion the doors of the structure flew open and more of the giant figures came out and started to fire upon the brave Vostroyans.

“Traitor marines!” screamed sergeant grant, but by the time he had, the chaos marines had fallen upon the soldiers of the Imperial, the sergeant drove his sword into the closes marine attacking at the joints of its armour and using all his strength to drive up and decapitate the marine. Dispute the best efforts of the vostroyans the marines had encircled the force and started to push towards the centre where the sergeant now stood. He fires his bolt pistol killing a marine but he couldn’t reacted fast enough to dodge the figure charging him, slashing his arm, redressing in useless. The vostroyans had fought hard but now only ten remained the sergeant looked up onto the hill the chaos marines had first come from and saw a flash of light from a dark figure.

With a flash of light the Vostroyans had all been killed, except for the sergeant, his was now lying on the floor his left arm and leg just a burnt stump but as he lay on the floor top see more drop pods but these bore the sign of the Ultramarines, the sergeant whispered a small prayer to the emperor and then passed into darkness.
