PostSubject: PSP and Youtube   Thu Nov 27, 2008 2:44 pm

I don't know if this belongs here but here it goes,
I recently jumped on the PSP bandwagon, I must say, what a magnificent little machine. This might be a little late for the avid PSP user but I, through the wonder of the internet, I have found away of putting Youtube videos on my unmodded PSP for viewing offline. While the PSP can be used for surfing the internet Via a WiFi internet connection it's built in Flash player is only at version 6, I believe that Youtube used Flash Player version 9, this makes watching Youtube on an unmodded PSP impossible.... but you can download the vids off Youtube convert them to an MP4 format and play them on your PSP for viewing while you do your creating, if you aren't able to have you computer near by.

The product is PSP video 9, it's free, the product will enable you to, as I said, download the Youtube vid then move it to your PSP for viewing. In addition, I have and extensive DVD collection, well, as most people know, the PSP will also play DVD movies but the DVD that fits in the PSP is proprietary to Sony which is bad for 2 reasons...
1) the movie selection sucks
2) is costs about $15-$20 per movie and they can only be played on the PSP ( or through the PSP to the TV if you have the appropriate cables)

In addition to getting Youtube on my PSP, I can now rip my collection of DVD movies to my computer then convert them with PSP Video 9 and play them on my PSP. I don't know the legalities of this but I'm not using the end product ( PSP Playable Movies ) for personal gain or distribution so it should be fine.

I just thought there might be others out there with the PSP that would like view vids or movies while away from there actual computer or TV. I also have Skype on it as well, My skype ID is in my profile. Anyway, it saves me from repurchasing the same favorite DVD's in PSP format (called "UMD") to view while on the go.

I tried ripping, decrypting and converting a DVD last night. Titan A.E., I know, not the greatest movie but it was a quick grab to see if it would work. The whole process takes about 1-1/2 to 1-3/4 hrs and converts a 4-1/2 gigabyte movie to just over 1 gigabyte in MP4 format playable on the PSP. This, by the way, is on the most demanding settings for the greatest sound and video quality, which are outstanding for such a small screen, I'm sure if your not as picky as me and don't mind the lesser quality, the file could be substancially smaller, taking up less space on your memory card

Either way, give it a shot, let me know what YOU think, I was very impressed
