PostSubject: Hero Quest   Thu Dec 11, 2008 9:34 am

I have found several sites the provide Additional Quests and Campains for Heroquest as well as a free quest planning tool and PC game. The Questmaker makes your questmap look identical to the original that came with the game and expansion packs. The PC game is interesting too; it utilizes the same quests that came with the original board game and expansion packs

I plan to create a Deluxe version of the game, working on recreating the figs at the moment but here are my thoughts thus far on the board

The board itself may prove to be a challenge, I know the original board is basic but don’t forget this will be the DELUXE version so everything has to be bigger and better, Instead of the original 1” squares I’m increasing it to 1-1/4” or 1-1/2 due to the fact that the bases of the new figs are bigger and I want “wiggle” room. I thought about using Hirst Arts moulds for the tiles, however seeing as how the board will be 19 squares x 26 squares for a total of almost 500 tiles (at 1-1/2” each) that will be a big and heavy board to lug around or store, instead I’ve decided to cut a grid into a ½” thick piece of MDF board an texture it to look like stone tile. I toyed around with creating actual walls instead of imaginary walls but that creates another problem, the board will be less modular or a pain to set up (the set up occurs as the game is played it might slow down the pace resulting in the players losing the mood and abandoning the game) so it looks like the imaginary walls will have to stay (heck it works for Descent)

If anyone is interested I have tons of extra quests and printable media for the game as well as revised and modded rules.

This game has an almost cult following it was first introduced in England in the early ‘80’s then a revised and more difficult edition was created some years later for North America, there are several versions of the game issued depending on where you are on the globe but all follow the same basic rules.

The game has been out of print, meaning, it’s no longer made, but it can still be purchased on EBay, Prices range from $20.00 to about $120.00 depending on the condition of the game, several add-on packs were also created and certain ones were only distributed to the UK or US, these Packs are harder to find at a half decent price, depending on the add-on pack a near mint version (never used or punched) can start at $250.00.

The good news is, if you’re Internet savvy you can find everything that you need to recreate the original game and expansion packs for free, there are several websites devoted to the game and those sites provide high quality scanned images of the board in various sizes, all of the cards, rule books and tiles for, all you really need to do is come up with the models

By the way I have everything on file, if you’re interested.

Did you see the board that was made with Hirst Arts on Hirst Arts Forum? Its not bigger but looks awesom. He also made walls for it but dont be sure if he use them or not.

I did see that, actually he has his own site with more pics, I feel the the board would be too heavy to lug around if done that way IMHO, but a beautiful setup none the less, if you're interested I have several links to HQ dedicated sites and forums that offer more "homebrew" game content to expand the game far beyond the original concept, with new characters, monsters and floor tiles etc.. However it is always better to play though the game as it was intended to get a feel for it before you alter or add to it, I find it cuts down the confusion for new players. By the way which version do you have? The UK version or the American version, I've played both and the American version is definatley better, the American version has increased HP for the monsters thus giving Zargon (Morcar), the Games master, a fighting chance

I also have tons of additional content for the game, such as new cards, larger Armory and tons of quests, I didn't create any of the content and I'm not taking credit for it, if you would like it let me know, I can email most of it to you, last time I looked at it, they were all PDF files

Hero Quest is also available for free online play as well through the Vassal system, just D/L and install the Vassal Engine and the H/Q Mod the get a group together and have at it.

Don't know wich version it is. It's in Dutch & bought it in Belgium.
Almost never played it because i couldnt find someone to play it & if i found someone it was 1 adventure or so.
Gonna concentrate on Warhammer 40k now. Guess it will take some time to learn it. But when my oldest son wanna play more HQ i'll contact you for expansion-files, thanks for the offer.
Will take 1 Ork from HQ to test my paintingskills. Maybe a goblin, got plenty of them Wink
Take 1 who's sword broke off, so when i mess up its no big loss.

It's a tough call as to whether they're wearing pants or not, most of the pics that I looked at prior to painting them indicated that they weren't wearing pants, big oops on my part if they are lol. Now not only are they attacking them with swords and maces but to add insult to injury they're also flashing thier goods as well. heh heh heh

Yea, the most scary Orkclan is the Sexy dressed Orks. Maybe i should paint the dress pink. Very Happy

Here're the pics of my very first painted miniature. Made some "mistakes", but now i learned what i shouldnt do & at the end it was actually too dark to keep painting ... but couldnt wait till next day to finish it.

Great job.
Making mistakes is one of the ways you're going to learn, I look back at some of my previous work and wonder "what was I thinking?" That's why I'll never strip my previous work and redo it, I use it as a gauge to see if I'm improving.

If you need any tips let me know, good luck and above all, have fun with your painting.

By the way, I still have 3 HQ goblins to paint, maybe after my move in mid Feb to early March I'll do a tutorial on Youtube with them

Would be great, hope it will not be too late, cant stop painting Wink
Already basecoated all the heroes, an ork & some others. When i have some spare time this week i'll start painting again & this will be better ... i hope.
I'll strip this one later ... if i get better. Will use this 1 as a "testpilot" for stripping others without melting the whole fig. Have to find something thesame as Simple Green here.

Btw, thanks for the kind comments.
